Helping Students Grow

Shona

Coach & Assistant Therapeutic Manager

I started off working at The Royal Stables as a TY work experience student, and I just never left!
Working with kids and families here has become an integral part of my life, and the fact I get to do so through horses is even more rewarding to me. I myself was diagnosed with multiple disabilities shortly after I turned 17, so I know first hand some of the struggles that disabled people and their families might face, and how horses can help in our journey to healing (physically and mentally).

I completed my Therapeutic Riding Coach programme, followed by a cert in Autism Studies in Early Years, and I am now studying my BA in psychology. I hope to eventually go into psychology specifically involving individuals with disabilities and long term illnesses.

Emma

Groom & Volunteer

With over 15 years of experience in the animal care industry, I bring a lifelong passion for all animals and their wellbeing to my role as a groom at the Royal Stables. My career began as a veterinary assistant, where I developed a strong foundation in animal health, handling, and care.

I take pride in ensuring that every horse receives the highest standard of care—both in their daily routines and in their work in sessions . I also have the privilege of assisting with sessions . Seeing how much a session can help a child is amazing . Watching them grow as a rider and making connections with the horses and their coaches is very rewarding.

Chloe

Head Volunteer & Groom

I’ve loved horses for as long as I can remember and have always been happiest when I’m around them. Some of my earliest memories are of riding Georgia’s ponies, Prince and King, when I was nine at the Prawn Festival in Howth, and I’ve been drawn to horses ever since.

I first came to The Royal Stables to lease a horse, but I quickly fell in love with the place, the people, and the atmosphere- and I’ve been here ever since! Overtime, I became more involved in both the yard and the therapeutic riding programme, and I now work as a groom while continuing to volunteer regularly. Recently, I was given the opportunity to take on the role of Head Volunteer, which has brought new responsibilities and allowed me to contribute even more to the team.

I have experience volunteering on a yard in Portugal. I was given the responsibility of being back rider on treks out with clients- ensuring everybody was safe and having fun. Those experiences deepened my love for horses and taught me the value of teamwork and connection.

In March 2025, I was able to get my first horse, Apollo. I hold a BA in Business and Economics from Trinity College Dublin and hope to build a career that combines my interests in horses, finance, and helping others.

Being part of such a supportive and welcoming community has been an incredible experience. I’ve learned so much about horse care, teamwork, and how powerful the bond between horse and rider can be. Seeing the joy and confidence that our sessions bring to the kids is the highlight of my week.

I’m now beginning my journey to become a Therapeutic Riding Coach and will soon be starting as an apprentice coach. I can’t wait to continue to learn and contribute to the work that makes The Royal Stables so unique.
